Start RecyclingTo start recycling, follow the steps below: 1. First, consult the Hanover Recycling Master Street List: Curbside Street List Locate your street name on the alphabetical street list and determine your day of pick-up and your designation as a "Recycle Week A" or "Recycle Week B" household. 2. Consult the Town of Hanover Recycling Schedule: 2010 Recycle Calendar or your refrigerator magnet (also available at the Town Office). Determine which weeks correspond to your designation as "Recycle Week A" (highlighted in yellow) or as "Recycle Week B" (highlighted in white). Those are the weeks you should put out your recyclables. Keep this Schedule and the magnet in a handy place to help remind you of your recycling weeks. Please remember that if a Holiday lands on your scheduled pick up day that Friday is always the make up day for the pick up of your recyclables. See calendar above. 3. Put your recycling bin(s) out by the street by 7:00AM. Be sure to pick up your recycling bin after collection. Please note some rules for recycling: 1. Town of Hanover maroon recycle bins must be used. No trash cans or trash bags are allowed. The reason for this is that the size of the maroon bin allows the driver to place this on the truck and sort materials. 2. Although we have allowed residents to use paper bags to collect recycables, Northeast Waste is discouraging this practice due to rainy weather and the paper bags falling apart when the driver tries to pick this up with recyclables in it. 3. Cardboard must be cut down into 2' x 2' sections and flatten. The reason for this is that the opening in the recycle truck for cardboard is only 2' wide. 4. If you have an overabundance of recycling, all we ask is that you give Northeast Waste a call at 1-802-295-2660 and let them know in advance so that they can plan their route according. Not calling them ahead of time may mean that only a portion of your recyclables will be picked up due to limitation of space in the truck and their need to pick up everyone else on the route. For answers to any questions you may have about the Town's recycling program, please contact the Hanover Public Works Department at 643-3327. Please note that you can always bring your recycables down to the Lebanon Solid Waste Facility at any time. There is no fee for this.
