Recycling - Newspaper, Boxboard and Mixed Paper

Newspaper (and insert coupons):  Must be dry & clean (not yellowed). Do not tie in bundles.  

Mixed paper:  Mixed paper and boxboard no longer need to be separated. Mixed paper includes includes the following:

  • magazines, catalogs, greeting cards and junk mail 
  • office, computer and fax paper
  • post-it notes, manila folders, envelopes and window envelopes 
  • construction paper, colored paper and wrapping paper (no foil or mylar)
  • NCR (no carbon required) paper
  • telephone books

    NO hard covered books (unless hard cover is taken off and thrown out), no carbon paper, blue prints, paper plates, cups or napkins.  Hard cover books must have the hard covers ripped off and thrown away ... only the inside of the book is recyclable.  

    Boxboard:  Must be gray (rip it to check), and may not come from the refrigerator or freezer section of the grocery store (these items are specially treated not to break down and so cannot be recycled). Acceptable items include:

    • cereal, cracker, cookie, cake mix and pasta boxes
    • shirt, shoe and tissue boxes
    • paper towel and tissue cores
    • egg cartons

    All liners and food residue must be removed from boxes.  Metal and plastic tear strips must be removed from plastic wrap, waxed paper, and foil boxes. 

    NO greasy pizza boxes.  No refrigerator or freezer boxes (beer/soda cartons, which contain waxy surfaces).
