Green Up Day 2008

Green Up Day 2008
Hanover, Etna & Hanover Center
Saturday, May 3rd, 9:00AM to 12:00 Noon

What is Green Up Day?
Green Up Day is a day when individuals, families, neighborhoods and scouts get together to clean up the road sides of the town.  Every year we fill between two and four town trucks with bottles, cans and assorted trash.  Some people prefer to work in their own neighborhoods.  Others prefer to work in an out-lying area where there is more to pick up.  It is not necessary to work the full three hours.  Any time you can give is appreciated.  We have a special need for volunteers to work in the Forest and Recreation District.  That is the part of the town on the other side of Moose Mountain which is only accessible by road from neighboring towns.

How Does Green Up Day Work?
Areas to be cleaned up are assigned ahead of time.  Bags will be provided which can either be picked up ahead of time or the morning of Green Up Day.  We will let you know where they will be available at a later date.  During the morning everyone picks up the trash from along the roadsides in their assigned area.  Bags can be left conspicuously beside the road for the town trucks to pick up or can be brought to one of the trucks parked at the Etna or Hanover Center Greens or to the Ray School parking lot.

At noon all participants are invited to a picnic on the Etna Green to celebrate a cleaner town.

Can I Just Go Out and Pick Up Without Signing Up?
It is much easier if we know ahead of time where people will be working. This way we can assure maximum coverage of the town.

I Would Like to Help But May 3rd is Not a Good Day For Me.
If you are unable to help on Saturday, you can plan to go out earlier in the week.  It is better to go out before rather than after Green Up Day.  The town crew is very busy in the spring and we shouldn't let the job of picking up the bags of trash drag on longer than necessary.  On the other hand, we would never discourage anyone from picking up at any time.

What If It Rains on Green Up Day?
There is no rain date.  If it is sprinkling, we will proceed as usual.  If it is pouring, people have the option of going out on Sunday or early in the week.  Please cover your area as soon as possible after Green Up Day.  If rain is predicted and your schedule permits, you may want to pick up your area a day or two earlier.
