Drought Mitigation Plan

Hanover Water Works Company has developed a Drought Mitigation Plan to address drought conditions. The plan establishes water use categories, voluntary and mandatory conservation standards, conditions that necessitate restrictions and enforcement measures.

Water Use Categories

Essential

Water necessary to sustain human life and the lives of domestic pets, and to maintain minimum standards of hygiene and sanitation

Health Care Facilities providing Patient care and rehabilitation

Firefighting Health and public protection purposes, approved by Health Officer and the General Manager.

Important

All domestic use other than those included in Essential and Non-Essential, Home water use including kitchen, bathroom and laundry.

Outdoor Non-Commercial Watering excluding gardens, playing fields and recreational uses.

Filling and Operation of Swimming Pools, Residential pools that serve more than 25 dwelling units, pools used by health care facilities for patient care and rehabilitation and public pools.

Commercial Laundromats Restaurants, Clubs and Eating Places Air Conditioning Schools, including all College activities, Churches, Motel/Hotels, etc.

Operation of Industrial and Commercial facilities

Non-Essential Uses of Water

Ornamental purposes, fountains, reflecting pools and artificial waterfalls

Watering gardens, lawns, parks, golf courses, playing fields and other recreational areas

Filling and Operation of Swimming Pools except as defined in Important Use of Water.

Washing of all Motor Vehicles. Washing of drives, walks and buildings. Dust control, except at approved Serving Water in Restaurants, Clubs, or Eating Places except as requested by a customer

Fire Hydrants - Any purpose, including testing fire apparatus and for fire department drills exceptions: firefighting; health protection purposes; certain testing and drills.

Flushing of Sewers and Hydrants, when approved by Health Officer and the General Manager.

Air Conditioning Refilling cooling towers after draining
