Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is the largest program, providing the most visible and direct services to the community 24 hours a day. The word "patrol" is used here in its broadest sense. It is considered to be the primary law enforcement function and embraces much more than the act of patrolling. It is defined as a generalized function where officers engage in a wide variety of activities which include:

  • Responding to Emergencies
  • Answering Calls for Service
  • Crime Prevention
  • Enforcing Traffic Laws
  • General Public Presence
  • Investigating Accidents
  • Conducting Initial Criminal Investigations

Equipment

The Department maintains a fleet of marked Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors, a Honda Ridgeline SUV and several unmarked units.  Cruisers are equipped with a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) which is a computer linked to the Department's network that is able to research License, Registration and Warrant information as well as access police reports and communicate car to car via text.  Each cruiser also carries a portable defibrillator unit.

The Department has many officers with specialized training including

  • Firearms & Defensive Tactics Instructors
  • Accident Reconstruction Specialists
  • Traffic Enforcement Officers
  • Drug Recognition Experts 
  • Bicycle Patrol Officers

Members of the Detective, Patrol and Communications Divisions also participate in the Regional Special Operations Unit (SOU).

The Police Department handles many urgent situations - including:

  • Emergencies (call 911)
  • Bomb Threats and Suspicious Packages
  • Car Accidents
  • Criminal Complaints
    • (prowlers, shoplifters, motor vehicle violations, stalkers,etc.)
  • Domestic Disputes and Violence
  • Hazardous Road Reports
    • (fallen trees, wires, etc.)
  • Missing Person Reports
  • Residential & Commercial Burglary Alarms
  • Neighbor Disputes
  • Medical Emergencies
  • DUI & Drug Related Incidents

Other departmental services include:

  • Ammunition Disposal
  • Broken Traffic Lights
  • Criminal Record Requests
  • Concealed Weapon Permits Requests
  • Domestic and Wild Animal Control
  • Tours of the Police Facility for Scool and Civic Groups 
  • Vehicle Unlocks (except trunks) 
  • Fingerprinting (Tuesdays & Thursdays ONLY)
  • Lost and Found Items
  • School Traffic Details
  • Nighttime Business Door Security Checks
  • Noise Complaints
  • Parking Complaints

  • Public Lectures and Talks

  • Ride-Along Program
  • Traffic Control for Special Events
  • Vacant Residence Checks
  • Infant/Child Car Seat Installation & Inspections

We operate on three shifts:

Day Shift (6:30am - 2:30pm)

Evening Shift (1:30pm - 9:30pm)

Night Shift (9pm - 7am)
