Parking Supervisor/Community Outreach Officer - Lt. Patrick F. O'Neill PARKING FACILITY PERSONNEL Parking Control/Facility Technician - Marisela Platt The Parking Division enforces Hanover parking ordinances, maintains an inventory of about 800 meters and manages meter and parking fees, in addition to parking space and crosswalk maintenance. The Parking staff consists of a Police Lieutenant who supervises the Division, two full-time civilian Enforcement Technicians and one full-time Clerk as well as the staff at the Hanover Parking Facility. In 2009 a total of 25,858 parking tickets were issued. 72 of those tickets were for handicapped parking violations. 22 vehicles were immobilized (booted) for non payment of fines. Revenue generated through parking activities goes into the "Parking Fund" and is used to support parking operations and maintenance as well as funding the Advance Transit Shuttle Services that is free to local riders. Location & Telephone: The Parking Division Office is located on the second floor of the Municipal Building, 41 South Main Street, P.O. Box 483, Hanover, NH 03755. The telephone number is (603) 640-3220. Parking tickets may be paid in person at the Parking Office. Office hours are from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. It should be noted that Dartmouth College operates their own parking office and issues parking tickets on their property. They can be reached at (603) 646-3311. Parking Facility - Opened October 17, 2000. For information on fees and rental spaces, call # 640-3231. The parking facility is open 24/7 and provides 289 parking spaces. It is located at 7 Lebanon St. A cashier is on duty between 7am and 9pm every day except Sunday. Meter Enforcement: The Town of Hanover enforces meters Monday through Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., excluding Holidays and Saturday Home Dartmouth Football Games. Parking Tickets: All parking ticket payments are due within 14 days of the date and time the ticket was issued. If timely payment of the ticket is not made and a written request for a court hearing has not been submitted (see "To Contest a Parking Ticket"), a notice will be sent to the owner of the vehicle ticketed with a late penalty fee assessed for each violation. If the ticket and late penalty fee are not paid upon receipt of the notice, a court summons may be issued. Failure to answer a summons may result in the issuance of a warrant for the arrest of the registered owner or the person who primarily uses the vehicle. Additional other penalties may be imposed for failure to appear. Upon a conviction, the court may impose a fine of up to $500. Winter Parking Ban: The Town of Hanover winter parking ban goes into effect November 15 and will remain in effect until April 30. Parking on the streets and in municipal off-street parking areas is prohibited between the hours of 12:01 Midnight and 7:00 A.M., seven (7) days a week. Violators will be fined and/or towed at owner's expense. Summer Parking Ban: The Town of Hanover summer parking ban goes into effect May 1 to November 15. No parking will be allowed between the hours of 2:00 A.M. to 6:00 A.M. on any Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday on the following streets:
(For further information Parking Ordinance is available at the Town Office) Permission to Park: If you are planning a function that may create a parking problem, please write or call the Parking Division between the hours of 8:30 A.M. and 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday, prior to the function. Handicap Parking Permits: The Hanover Parking Division and The Hanover Dispatch Center issues temporary handicap parking permits, free of charge, for persons who have a temporary disability. These permits are valid in the Town of Hanover ONLY. To obtain a permanent New Hampshire Disabled Parking Permit, please contact the Department of Motor Vehicles in Concord, New Hampshire. Permits: The Hanover Parking Division issues the following permits: Temporary Parking Permit (mostly used for construction workers, builders, electricians, etc. who need a one-day permit). Temporary Handicap Permit (see "Handicap Permit"). Permits for Free Parking at Thompson Arena and Monthly Permits are issued by the Town Office.
