Prosecutor's OfficeThe Town of Hanover is a member of the Lower Grafton County Prosecutorial Association, sharing a prosecutor with several other area towns including Lyme, Orford, Grafton, Enfield & Canaan. Volunteers from the community along with the youth's case worker write a contract for the youth to follow. The contract contains various tasks the youth must complete before the assigned deadline. Provided the youth completes the contract within the required timeframe, he/she does not have to appear in court for the offense. Hanover currently offers several diversion program based on the offender's age, offense and circumstances. Alcohol and Marijuana Diversion Programs and the The Alcohol Program is open to anyone twelve (12) through eighteen (18) arrested for an offense involving alcohol. The Marijuana Program is available for anyone twelve (12) through sixteen (16) arrested for an offense involving marijuana. The Juvenile Diversion Program is open to anyone twelve (12) through sixteen (16) arrested in the Town of Hanover and does not need to be alcohol or marijuana related. Diversion is an alternative to appearing before the judge in court. For the Alcohol and Marijuana Programs, the offender will meet with a licensed Substance Abuse Counselor for an initial 1 hour assessment. Parents are required to attend for a half-hour of this session. In all Programs, the diversion committe reviews the arrest and composes a written contract with the offender that may include restitution to the victim, community service and letters of apology. To apply for one of these programs contact Sheryl Tallman at the Hanover Police Department (603) 643-2222. A member of the committee will call to set up a meeting to begin the program and collect the $400.00 diversion fee. Checks should be made payable to the "Town of Hanover". The Hanover Alcohol Diversion Program (18-20 Year Olds) You will attend two (2) sessions. The first is a group educational session that is held on a Saturday from 10-5. The second session takes place a few days later and is a one-on-one half hour appointment with the Counselor. The fee is $400.00. You must enroll in the program within one (1) week after your arrest. If you don't enroll before your court date, you must appear in court. If you enroll but don't complete the program, you must go to court.
