Affordable Housing Commission

The Hanover Affordable Housing Commission consists of twelve members appointed by the Board of Selectmen to three-year terms.  The Affordable Housing Commission's responsibilities include:

§         Advising the Board of Selectmen and the Planning Board and working with other agencies of the Town and with community organizations to promote the provision of affordable housing in Hanover;

§         Developing and recommending to appropriate Town boards permanently affordable housing policies and regulations;

 §         Identifying Town resources that could assist in the provision of affordable housing;

§         Exploring and fostering partnerships with existing organizations such as Twin Pines Housing Trust and Habitat for Humanity;

§         Educating the community as to the needs for and effects of affordable housing;

§         Evaluating and reporting the effect of Town policies on affordable housing;

§         Representing the Town with regional and state affordable housing organizations.

To these ends the Commission has promoted the use of a portion of the Gile Tract, as approved by Town Meeting, for a development of approximately 60 units of economically diversified affordable workforce housing and is working with appropriate organizations such as the Twin Pines Housing Trust and the New Hampshire Housing Finance Agency to accomplish this development.  Also, the Commission is working with the Planning Board to implement the objectives of the Master Plan in order to develop feasible and realistic provisions in the Zoning Ordinance and other Town regulations and policies to foster affordable housing in Hanover.

The Commission meets in Town Hall at 7:30 PM on the third Thursdays of each month.  Its meetings are open to the public.
