Sustainable Hanover and the Town Master Plan

The Sustainable Hanover Committee met with the Hanover Planning Board in September of 2014 to discuss ways in which Sustainable Hanover can assist the Planning Board revise the Master Plan. The Planning Board was very appreciative of the offer of assistance and indicated that they plan to begin this effort following Town Meeting in 2015.

Sustainable Hanover formed a subcommittee during the first half of 2014 to review the current Master Plan and to understand how the Master Plan currently incorporates the concepts of sustainability and resiliency. The subcommittee has reviewed a majority of the Master Plan and came up with some initial questions for the Planning Board that speak directly to some of Sustainable Hanover’s greatest concerns.

Some of the interests, concerns and questions that Sustainable Hanover include:

1. Can sustainability and resiliency become part of the DNA of the Master Plan as opposed
to being dealt with in a stand alone chapter?
2. How can the Master Plan encourage and support the development of renewable
energy?
3. How can the Master Plan encourage the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions?
4. How can the Master Plan address the achievement of sustainability goals adopted by
the Selectboard?
5. How can the Master Plan address the achievement of sustainability goals adopted by
Sustainable Hanover?
6. How can sustainability and resiliency inform and influence Hanover's growth and development?
7. Has the topic of sustainability and resiliency been discussed at any of the neighborhood
meetings that the Planning Board has been recently involved in?
